And, as is the case with most private enterprises, they tend to be run more efficiently than their public counterparts. But, there is some dispute about results. But the Charter School system has received some very special attention by groups like the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Walton Family Foundations. These powerhouse foundations funded by the wealthiest Americans, have found that Charter Schools do represent a concept that is part of the solution to educating the nation’s children.

Each of us has a mixture of feelings toward those people we’re intimate with, and learning how to tolerate ambivalence is a part of growing up. Small children sometimes scream “I hate you!” when frustrated by their parents though they may be loving and affectionate an hour later. Such hostility can be so powerful that for the moment, it obliterates awareness of every other feeling. Very small children believe that what they are feeling right now is the only reality and they can’t remember they had other, loving feelings not long before. “I wish you were dead!” they may cry,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and in the moment, they may actually believe that’s what they want. The adults around them hopefully understand that this hostility is a transient state, not the absolute and unchanging truth, and that young children usually can’t help themselves.
Unacknowledged hostility is sometimes at the heart of depression. “Aggression turned inward” was one of the earliest theories about the origins of depressive states; while our understanding has expanded to included other explanations for the varieties of depression, this one still holds true in many cases. With some of my depressed patients,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], getting into contact with anger and hostility coincided with significant relief from their depression.

Tolerating hatred toward those people we love is no easy task. Anyone who has struggled to restrain destructive feelings during a fight – including the wish to lash out physically – knows just how difficult this can be. One of my patients used to complain that during arguments,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], his wife would invariably tell him some hurtful comment a friend had made about him, usually exaggerated and distorted to inflict maximum pain. That marriage ended in divorce for complex reasons, but a general erosion of emotional trust (on both sides) was at the heart of it. Another way of describing what happened was that ambivalence couldn’t be tolerated and hatred won out. In some profound way, they destroyed each other.

A primary function of different religions, societies and political systems is to provide us with sanctioned outlets for our hostility. For Arabs, it’s socially acceptable to hate and vilify Jews, and vice versa. In our own country,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], some fundamentalist churches encourage their members to hate Muslims (e.g,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the recent controversy over burning the Koran). Another example is virulent hatred (as opposed to a nuanced opinion) towards illegal immigrants, gays,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Republicans, Democrats, blacks,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], whites, etc. I’ve known church-going people of different creeds – devoted mothers, excellent fathers, generous friends – with extreme feelings of hostility towards people they’d never met. It’s easy to hate the faceless “other” and hard to manage passing feelings of hostility for our loved ones.
As we mature, our experience ideally teaches us the same thing — that however angry and hostile we may feel right now, we won’t always feel that way, and it might better for us to keep “I hate you!” to ourselves until the feelings passes. In my practice,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I’ve often been struck by how unable many of my patients are to do just that. Saying “Fuck you!” in the heat of an argument seems to be very common. One of my favorite quotes (from the old Laurence Olivier/Greer Garson film of Pride and Prejudice) is: “Honesty is a highly over-rated virtue.” I hold to this in general in social relations, and in particular, I feel that hurling abuse and saying cruel words during an argument, even if you honestly feel that way at the moment, is destructive to long-term emotional trust . Some truths are better left unspoken.
Rather than emotionally destroying our loved ones, we may resort to splitting: instead of feeling ambivalence toward one person, we preserve our love for that one and re-direct our hostility toward someone or something else. This is an unconscious process, of course. Having an outlet for hostility comes as a relief and doesn’t tax us as much as coping with real ambivalence toward our nearest and dearest. One other way to cope is to keep an emotional distance. I’m sure you’ve known relationships where the couple didn’t seem terribly intimate, neither hostile nor loving but polite or disengaged. If you’re not too close then you’re less likely to be troubled by complex and sometimes destructive emotions. One of the many reasons some people never develop relationships of depth and duration is because they can’t bear the inevitable conflict of emotions.

Adhesion of Film Coating to the Tablet Core

The tablets being coated and the applied coating are constantly subjected to mechanical stress. Tablet breakage and surface erosion are typically seen when the mechanical strength and friability of the tablet core are inadequate. The problem can worsen during scale-up because of the increased weight of the tablets charged into the coating pan. This situation may occur after product approval, because the use of ever-increasing pan sizes is not uncommon as product sales increase. Therefore, any product that is performing poorly with respect to mechanical strength should not even be exposed to the scale-up process.
Lubricants are added to tablet formulations to minimize both die-wall friction and punch adhesion. Both of these requirements necessitate that the lubricants function at the tablet surface, precisely where they are counterproductive in the adhesion process considering the inherent hydrophobicity of lubricants, such as metal stearates.
With the current awareness of health, safety and environmental problems, aqueous film coating is a process that is routinely employed in the preparation of pharmaceutical solid dosage forms. The success of this process is determined by three factors: formulation of the coating system, coating process parameters and tablet core. During the last 20 years, there has been significant research into coating formulations and processes. In focusing on these areas, less attention has been paid to issues that relate to the preparation of a suitable tablet or substrate. This article will highlight the importance of pharmaceutical formulation on the quality of a film coated tablet.
Tablets are by far the most popular dosage form when administering drugs to patients, and a large proportion of the tablets produced around the world are film coated. Coating is applied for a variety of reasons such as aesthetic appearance; identification and branding; taste or odor masking; enhanced mechanical strength; and protection from moisture, light and/or air.
Decisions as to the ultimate appearance of the tablet are often left until later stages of development and can impact coating quality. To ensure success in the film coating process, formulation along with the design of the tablet should be considered early in the development.
A measure of equal or perhaps greater importance in terms of tablet robustness is friability. This test more accurately reflects the stresses that tablets will encounter when tumbling into a coating pan,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Tablets to be film coated should have a maximum friability value of 0.3% and preferably less then 0.1%. This guideline should be adhered to regardless of tablet size or shape.
The formulation of a robust tablet has to be considered in terms of:
No excipient used in such small quantities can have as detrimental effect on tablet quality than magnesium stearate. For the formation of an adequate and adhesive film coat,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the atomized droplets have to spread completely over the surface of the core – and to a certain degree penetrate into a substrate. Some of the materials used in tablet formations, however, may interfere with the intermolecular bonding at the film-substrate interface and hinder adhesion of the film to the core.
Drug and excipient particle characteristics can also have a significant affect on the success of film coating. Anyway, people often claim that men make better programmers because they are more mathematically inclined. Personally, I disagree. It is true that computer science is very much mathematical in nature; however, computer programming often is not. It's true that a software developer should understand basic concepts such as binary computations, round-off error and Boolean logic; however, for most programming tasks, there is little need for calculus, group theory or other advanced mathematical topics. For this reason, I think that the importance of a strong mathematical aptitude is largely overblown.
That is one reason why I wish more women would pursue a programming career. If it is indeed true that women have better language skills,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], then they are likely to perform well with computer languages as well. Again, this jibes well with my own experiences. I haven't known many female programmers, but most of the ones that I do know have produced some rather outstanding work. (To be fair, I've also known some lousy female programmers; however, these individuals had little passion for their field,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and only entered it for the sake of a paycheck. That's a pretty good recipe for mediocrity, regardless of one's gender.)

However, a multitude of psychological studies do claim that men have-on the average-a greater aptitude for mathematics and mechanics than women do, whereas women tend to perform better at linguistics and communication. These tendencies coincide well with my own observations, so for now, I'll assume that these studies are reasonable descriptions of gender differences.)
Indeed, I think that linguistic skill is decidedly more important. I'd say that in years past,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], about 90% of the programmers that I encountered produced sloppy code-software that is clumsily structured, poorly documented and difficult to understand. I've also noticed a strong correlation between linguistic skill and the ability to generate clean, legible code. And why not? Computer languages are, after all, just that-languages. It's thus reasonable to expect that someone with a strong language aptitude will-on the average-produce cleaner, more understandable code than someone whose language skills are lackluster.
Everyone knows that computer programming is a heavily male-dominated field. I think this is unfortunate. Over the years, I've come to conclude that there is a great deal that women can contribute to this field.
Breaking into this field may not be easy. Find out what it might be like to bring back the joyfulness of eating. Imagine preparing for this meal for a friend or lover that you had not seen in quite some time. Have fun planning the details and anticipating with excitement how the meal will flow. What details would make this meal absolutely perfect? Is this a meal you can prepare at home? Do you need to call your mom or relative and get the recipe? Now pick a date that you are willing to cook for yourself. Yes, you read that last sentence correctly. It did mention the words “cook” and “for yourself.” However, we’re only talking one meal. And, there’s no need to do this by yourself. Unless of course you want to. Enlist the enthusiasm of your very best friend or the support of your partner. Explain the purpose of your meal is to savor and enjoy the entire process of eating.

Is your ideal meal something your mom made for you as a child? Or something you had in a restaurant once? Is there an appetizer, salad, main course, a favorite drink, coffee and dessert? Or just a few special foods? Allow the colors and arrangement of the food to come into mind.
